James Simmons, Jr. came on the music scene as a musician when he was 14 years old. One year younger than Michael Jackson, James' career was blossoming at the same time when artists like Michael, James Brown, Luther, Chaka Khan, Whitney, and the like were making their names a household word. He took what he learned from his years of experience in the business and formed Purple Panther Records.
The label was established to keep soul music alive. Yes, that same soul music that labels like Motown created, that made R&B music what it is today, but seems to be missing from the airways and records stores. That music!
Together with his partner, Roz Shepard, he is bringing soul music back to the industry with a flavor that is hot and reflective of yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's sounds. R&B, Funk, Jazz, Gospel, Rap, Dance, it doesn't matter, Purple Panther Records produces it all.
In addition to being a businessman and a producer, he is also an artist. James debut album is coming s o o n!! Don't sleep! James plays 14 instruments and has played and toured with some of the best in the industry from Evelyn "Champagne" King, Patti, Chaka Khan, Glenn Jones, The Manhattans, Stephanie Mills, and Mary J. Blige to name a few.

Roz Shepard, a savvy business and political consultant, is also a child music prodigy. Roz accidentally stumbled into the knowledge that she could sing at age 7. From a child she was told she had a gift to sing. As an adult she is still being told that same thing. Ask her what she thinks and she will tell you she just sings what she feels.
Working in the political arena and just singing for the joy of it, never thinking she would ever be an artist, Roz' debut album was released on April 17, 2008 and is pleasing crowds around the globe, while still in only the listening stages.
Roz' brand of creative talent and business acumen has put Purple Panther Records on the map. The label provides recording and producing opportunities for talented individuals who are in need of an outlet of expression for their musical talent. Not just in their community, but to the world.
